My name is Mary Ellen Johnson. I am from Zionsville, Indiana, and I am working on my bachelor's degree in elementary education at the University of Mary in Bismarck, North Dakota. I am also working to complete two minors, special education and psychology. Throughout my education, my passion for working with children has never faltered, but the path I would take has been redirected through the counsel of my advisors and professional role models.
I aspire to gain experience and understanding through teaching as to how to best work with and help children. I plan to use this experience to become a counseling psychologist for children and adolescents. This process will not be a short one but rather a long, winding path, intertwined with professional experience and education. I look forward to the exposure I will receive into the minds of children as an educator and cannot imagine living my life any other way than serving young children.

This career path was not one I chose lightly. I come from a family of six, Mom, Dad, sister (Katherine), brother (Michael), and brother (Andrew). These five people have shaped who I am more than they can ever imagine. My mother began her professional career as a high school history teacher. She used this degree for a short while, but ended up making her way into the special education field, both of these sparking my interest in the education world. She is now the superintendent's assistant for Zionsville Community Schools. My father is a clinical psychologist for children and adolescents. He has helped me realize my dreams of helping children know their potential. My siblings are the strongest people I have ever met. They have each faced adversities, and I hope I can someday be as strong as they are. Without the attributes, dreams, and understanding my family has given me, I would never have realized my dreams or understood the field in which I desire so strongly to work.
